R710 fans on high with cold server?

Hi All,

I have an R710 running in a garage where it can be quite cold. Oddly, when temperatures descend to near freezing, the fans are running at very high RPMs. I have looked around a lot to try to discover the ipmitool or racadm commands to force them to run more slowly without any luck.

Please advise what I can do.

R710 server with iDrac6 v 1.9. I have ipmitool and racadm access. It is a standalone server.

Thanks In Advance

Zubenubi,

Would you confirm what version the BIOS is, as it looks like the iDrac is out of date? I ask because if they are both very behind then there is an order and process to updating, that won't cause you to have issues with the server that jumping to the latest version would cause.

Let me know what version you are at and I can get you the links and order you need to do to get it up to date.

Also the reason I suggest updating is that the iDrac controls the fans. So it being really behind can cause fan issues.

Again don't just run the latest updates as it can cause permanent issues with the server.
