R740 UEFI0036 iDRAC Error
I have an R740 PowerEdge server that is bringing up the following errors on every boot.
UEFI0036: Unable to initialize the iDRAC Shared Memory Architecture (SMA) interface.
UEFI0285: Unable to send Secure Boot policy data to iDRAC because of an issue in the iDRAC Shared Memory Architecture (SMA) Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI).
I have followed the suggested actions to remove power for 30 seconds and restart. I have also run the iDRAC firmware update executable and the BIOS update executable, both of which completed successfully, but the error remains.
What could be causing this error and what can I do to resolve it?

Hi @willo17au,
As suggested by Martin earlier, the only option now left is to replace the motherboard.

Hello,
This would indicate that the iDRAC on the motherboard is having some issues. Most iDRAC issues are fixable, but when they aren't, a motherboard replacement may be needed to restore functionality.
Since you tried the power drain process already, you could look at attempting to flash the iDRAC firmware. That can be done from the OS, but you might look at this article, too. It's a bit different of a process, but can have better success. Let me know if this helps, or if you have further questions.

Hi Martin,
I have completed the process as outlined in the linked article with the following difference:
I have tried firmware images from 3.30.30.30, 5.10.50.00, and 6.00.02.00, all with the same result as the original firmware.
I also tried resetting the iDRAC to factory defaults, which didn't resolve the issue.

A new motherboard was installed and the error has resolved. Thank you.
