Replacing PowerEdge T100 Power Supply
Hello,
My PowerEdge T100 went down recently - it made a loud grinding noise and then tripped a breaker. There was also a faint burnt smell in the air, all of which leads me to believe the power supply is dead.
So I'm looking into how to replace the power supply, but I'm confused by what I'm looking at and need help.
My T100 power supply has a cable that I'm not familiar with. The power supply cable in question has four sata ports, the last two of which branch out to connect to a SAS controller. I'm including a photo below, since I may not be describing it correctly.
Since the drive/controller cabling is directly integrated with the power supply, I'm not sure how to replace it.
Do I just need to drop a "standard" power supply in and then add a SAS-SATA conversion cable? Or can I buy a replacement power supply with a similar cable configuration?
Sorry, my hardware knowledge is (perhaps obviously) limited. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a replacement power supply link: www.impactcomputers.com/nh493.html
You will need to purchase this one for compatibility and will plug and play.

I apologize for my ignorance, but the photo doesn't look at the same to me. Specifically, the replacement power supply you suggested appears to lack the SATA/SAS interface I was referring to (the blue cabling in the photo I included in my original post).

The blue cable, part number FY227, is removeable and will be added to your new power supply.

No, this part comes off the old power supply and added to the new one. The picture is for reference purposes.

Sorry, never mind. I now see how to detach the cable so it can be re-used.
Thanks again for your help.

Ok, so just to clarify - I need to order part number FY227 separately, correct?

Geoff, I have an old Optiplex 745 that I'm not using any longer, and it would appear to me that it uses the same power supply as the PowerEdge T100. Do you know if that's the case?

Hi,
> According to our parts listing, its a match.
So I just finished swapping the power supplies, and the machine booted successfully. Very nice indeed.
However, something still seems to be wrong. The CPU fan is running constantly, at full speed (it certainly never did this before). I've double-checked all my power connections, and they seem OK. And the server itself is operating correctly, but the fan never used to run constantly like this.
Any ideas?

Make sure the bios is at 1.4.1 . There isn't another board update that will affect the fans other than the bios.
Go to this link and choose your update method: http://dell.to/Pq1oVf
