Server can't get to POST; restarting continuosly

Hi

System ModelPoweredge R730
Bios Version2.11.0

Firmware Version

2.70.70.70
Lifecycle controller firmware2.70.70.70

I recently replaced my CPU chip with the wrong chipset; Upon rebooting I get the following errors in the Lifecycle log

SYS1003: System CPU Resetting.
RAC0703: Requested system hardreset.
CPU0000: Internal error has occurred check for additional logs.

I put back the old CPU back but...

These messages in the lifecycle log repeat with every time the server tries to boot but stops a second later.

All I have is a blank screen

At one point the system was displaying on the VGA adapter but it was stuck in "Checking configuration" and just froze. When I restarted the machine, the screen never came back, I do hope I haven't damaged the motherboard somehow.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated

Thanks!

Hi,

Sorry to hear that I will suggest a few steps you can try. If these steps don't work I would suspect hardware failure too. I see the BIOS is up to date. If you can access the BIOS, change the system profile to custom and disable C State. If you have iDRAC access, you can try to access the BIOS via the virtual console. (If there is no iDRAC enterprise license, https://dell.to/3ogfD5X integration-with-microsoft-windows-admin-center-openmanage-integration-with-servicenow-and-dpat-trial-licenses? lang = en)

However, there is an update 2.75.75.75 regarding the iDRAC. https://dell.to/3lz0VoJ This update will be useful if there is a communication problem between the iDRAC and the Intel Management Engine. refer article https://dell.to/2JBoKze lifecycle-controller-log-message? lang = en
Girst thing first, I suggest you do power drain at first.
1. Power the server down.
2. Disconnect server from all power cables, Network cables.
3. Hold down the power button continuously for at least 10 seconds.
4. Insert power cables and network cables back to the system.
5. Wait about 2 minutes before powering on server to give the iDRAC time to initialize.
6. Power the system on.

To check if the server is running in min2post state
I would take the least POST configuration and check for any changes in behavior. If you do, you can add one component at a time to help you identify the fault. If there is no change, the problem will most likely be caused by one of the components required for POST.
System board
● One power supply unit
● One processor (CPU) in socket CPU1
● One memory module (DIMM) installed in socket A1
● Left control panel (for power button functionality)
One backplane card

You can try swapping the Jumpers on the motherboard for pg 193 and pg 194 refer https://dell.to/36r9CNN
If these do not work, I would think of motherboard failure in the first stage.

Let us know how it goes!

Unfortunately I tried all your suggestions and I'm still stuck with a machine that is rebooting every second. I still have the same three messages repeating ad infinitum.

Thanks for your assistance; I guess my next step is to get it serviced by Dell.

Thanks!
