T620 Supported CPUs

Question

Hi guys,

Can someone please let me know what the T620 actually support CPU-wise? Looking at the T620 manual, it says that Xeon E5-2697 V2 is (Page 19), but I put one in, and the server doesn't even POST!

If I read the manual right, it says it only supports eight cores per processor but then lists supported CPUs that have more than 8 cores, so what is it?

I found this old post that talked about the same thing, but I was hoping @Dell-Stephane T was still around, and they provided the best answers back then.

Would you clarify the part number for the 2697v2, I just want to confirm it is a version supported on the server. I do see them listed, but I want to verify the specific part number. After that I would start with taking the server to its Minimum to Post configuration, with the new processor.

System Board
CPU1 with heat sink (minimum for troubleshooting)
Single DIMM configuration with DIMM in socket A1
Control Panel with cable (to power system on)
PSU (and for redundant PSU also the PDB/PIB)

If the server clears post under that configuration then I would verify if the server is up to date on everything.

The bios and the idrac must be updated to support some models of CPUs. In some cases, a system model was released, then newer CPUs were later added to the supported list, and newer idrac and bios versions would be required to support the new CPU models. This will mean putting one original CPU in the system, updating the bios and idrac, then putting the new CPU(s) back in. I have seen static damage from not being properly grounded cause issues as well.
