T640 - NO POWER - MOTHERBOARD LED

Hi,

My Dell T640 does not turn on, it has 2 power supplies connected, but when I press the power button, it does not start and the LEDs on the motherboard show the following status:

DS0 - OFF

DS1 - ON

DS2 - OFF

DS3 - OFF

DS4 - OFF

DS5 - BLINK

DS6 - BLINK

Any idea about it.?

Thank's a lot.

Hello,

Could be the BP1 cable or the backplane itself.

You may try removing backplane and cables. Test if you can power up.

If not then bring it down to Minimum-to-POST components. Verify good POST and put things back a little at a time until you find faulting component that does not let it power on.

The minimum components to allow the Dell PowerEdge T640 to complete POST are as follows:

*System board

*One Power supply

*One processor (CPU) in socket CPU1 (minimum for troubleshooting)

*One Memory Module (DIMM) installed in socket A1

Hello,

The LED pattern means 5V BP1 Failure:

A failsafe timeout condition has been detected on the BP1 connector to the backplane

First try drain the flea power and reseat backplane cable connections:

drain flea power (shut down, disconnect power cables and Network cables, hold in power button 20 seconds with cords removed). After flea power drain, system has to set for 3 minutes for DRAC to reset without any power plugged in.

At this time reseat the cables, both ends of the cables, to the backplane. Look for any damage to cable or sockets.

Then plug in NIC and Power but wait 2 minutes before power on to give DRAC time to initialize.

You may also try with just 1 PSU and try in both slots. Then do the same with the second PSU.

Do you see any failed hard drives in the system?

@DELL-Charles R Thanks for your help, I followed your process but it didn't work, I tried it with the two PSUs and in the two slots, when I do the power drain and wait the 3 minutes to plugged in the power cord, then I plugg in, around 1 minute after that, the led " i " in front face start blink quickly in orange, and the server doesn't power on.

Actually, I am trying to turn on the server with the HD's disconnected, to validate if it could be the hard drives that have problems, but it still does not turn on the server.

I really appreciate your help, I don't know if you have any other advice.?

Thank's a lot Charles/Young for your's answers.

Charles I did the test with the minimum components, and you right the problem is in the blackplane or BP1 cable, now I'm looking for this parts to change it.

I really appreciate your help.

Hello,

There should be a label on the backplane and the cable with the part number you need.
