The CMOS battery has failed
I am writing to you regarding an issue I have been experiencing with my Dell PowerEdge T420 server. I recently replaced the CMOS battery, but I am receiving conflicting error messages.Immediately after the replacement, I received an error message stating "The CMOS battery has failed". However, shortly after, I received a second message stating "The CMOS battery is operating normally". This has caused confusion and concern about the actual status of the CMOS battery and the overall operation of my server. I kindly request your assistance in resolving this issue. Could you please provide guidance on what these error messages mean and what steps I should take to ensure the proper functioning of my server?Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response and resolution of this issue.
Best regards,

Hello thanks for choosing Dell and welcome to our community.
CMOS battery fault alone wouldn’t affect the server running. It stores time and date, that’s about it.

You can get a CR2032 pretty much anywhere.
Before replacing the battery, it’s always safe to have a record of the previous configuration. If the symptom persists after replacement, this time you’ll need to look into motherboard replacement.
