it was just too ask for some advice. this server is in a test lab to test. currently there is an ubuntu 7 or 8 on it. i want  to put the latest red hat on it.

As an alternative, if your Internet connection isn't what you'd like for a download of that size (I know mine's not - it would be lots faster to install Windows and update than to wait for the 9GB's to download). ... you could also install Windows, run the smaller Update Packages for Windows, then install RHEL.

np, you can use  the floppy version, but you can also create a bootable USB key and perform the update that way. The Systems Build and Update Utility (SBUU) uses the Server Update Utility (SUU) to update the entire system in one shot, and the SBUU is bootable.

I have been busy with the upgrade of the bios. But at last I run in to this problem.

I did do this:

 You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
 You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

I don't think the RHEL update packages will run on Ubuntu. I do have an alternative way for you to update the BIOS if that is all you are needing. Its not a supported tool but it will work for you.

I have created a DOS bootable ISO for you with the executable with for the BIOS update on it.

You can download an ISO that I made for you at the link below. After downloading burn the image to a disk and boot the server from it. You will be taken to a DOS command prompt. From there you can run the BIOS.exe and follow the promts to update the BIOS.

These links are bad. Can someone update them? I would like specific instructions on how to create the bootable USB. I have found the .exe for the A07 BIOS update but it needs to reside on the USB that is booted.

My goal, as is others, is to update to the BIOS A07 with a bootable USB.

This easily built a USB drive. But do I simply copy the PE2850-A07.EXE file on to this and run it after booting? I got this file from here: www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=1XYHY

Not knowing how this diagnostic bootable works I'm not sure how to reach the .exe to update the BIOS.
