Upgrading from PowerEdge R740
Hello everyone .
My team at work is considering upgrading from R740 to a newer PowerEdge server . Do you have any recommendations in the same price range ?
I'm not sure what would be a good/Worth upgrade .
Thx !

Hello,
We don't have access to Sales information, unfortunately. However I can say that if you're wanting to get something newer than an R740, you may want to look at our 15th generation servers (the R740 is a 14th generation). The R750 isn't available right now there are only a handful of 15th generation servers available. This would be the R7525, R7515, the R6525, and the R6515. If you're looking for a system available for sale, I'd look at one of those. You might also contact Sales directly to see if they have further information.
You also have the option of looking at something like an R840 or an R940, but that's not so much newer, as it would be more powerful.
Let me know if you have any other concerns.

Thank you for replying . I'm going to check them out .
The R940 probably won't be an option for us but the other options might will . I'll have a look no and let you know what I think .
Have a good week

Hi
R7525 R6525 R7515 R6515 are not an option for us as they packed with AMD and we prefer Intel based systems . It seems like R940 and R840 could be a good option for us . 48 slots for RAM , more CPU and more storage options .
I have used the following table as a reference :
https://i.dell.com/sites/csdocuments/Product_Docs/en/poweredge-rack-servers-quick-reference-guide.pdf
Edit : Just checked on NVIDIA website to make sure Tesla V100 is supported on 840 and 940 . On 840 I can put up to 2 cards while on our current 740 we can put up to 3 cards . The 940 model doesn't appears as supported for some reason ( Only the xa does but it's a bit different model ) . Would you mind to put some light on it ?

and the current model C4140 with also 4x300 Watt and Intel Skylake and up.

We are using the server for deep learning proposes so we need the option to add at least 3 GPUs and more disk is always better as we are working with a very big data .
I think the best option is the R940xa . A few 15th GEN server are already available so 14th is not the most recent . However the 15th GEN comes with AMD so it won't be good for us .
Any idea how many Tesla V100 can be used on R940 ? Couldn't find an answer for that .

The initial question was the best one and tends to be wrong answers.
The R740 is the latest and from the most rescent dell generation. There is right now nothing "newer". So the question is what kind of ressources your r740 cant deliver or better whats youre requirement right now?
There are other R740 based options as well as higher ranked Dell server (but again these are not "newer")
Quad CPU means also more memory slots and PCIe lanes/Slots.
It looks like youre interesting in GPUs?
