Use PCIe NVMe M.2 on front panel with Poweredge
Hello!
Because SSD SATA are more and more replaced by SSD PCIe NVMe M.2, I would like to get a new poweredge server in which I could plug up to 16 SSD PCIe NVMe M.2.
For that, i guess I have to select a NVMe Capable Backplane.
However, for a Poweredge R7525, selecting a NVMe backplan,e the only option I have for the chassis is "16X 2.5 SAS/SATA + 8X 2.5 NVME without XGMI ". It's means that I will be able to plug only 8 SSD PCIe NVMe M.2, right? So doesn't respond to my needs...
What are the poweredge model accepting up to 16 SSD PCIe NVMe M.2? Are we always obliged to order a (very expensive) U2 hard drive with that kind of configuration?
Or is it possible to plug SSD PCIe NVMe M.2 on a SAS/SATA Backplane ?

You're right, thanks. We can see that some configuration are with 24 NVME, and indeed, on some other configuratio proposed by the shop I can select this configuration.
However, if I order a NVME backplane, it seems I'm obliged to order a NVME U.2. Do you confirm there is no way to avoid to order this drive?
Also can you confirm that a M.2 drive (instead of U.2) will be compatible?
