Will Dell ever support proxmox

Hello

I'm very intrested in Proxmox and I've installed it on my environment.

The biggest problem in the customer proposition  is the lack of support from DELL hardware.

Many company moved to Proxmox and I think it can be a good business. This forum has a lot of request in Proxmox integration with Dell.

Dell support Ubuntu and Ubuntu Server (based on Debian like Proxmox).

Will Dell ever support Proxmox ?

My best regards

Hello,

Dell doesn't support Proxmox and I don't have any information that it will.

You're welcome to discuss it in the Community but I'm sorry, Dell doesn't support it.

Hello,

Dell has not validated Proxmox VE as an approved operating system for the PowerEdge servers.

You can find which OS's your PowerEdge supports here:

https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/SupportedOS/poweredge-r520

Replace the r520 at the end to R640, R750…. Whichever server you are working with.

Hello Charles thanks for your answer.

I can only hope that DELL takes into consideration the support of Proxmox.

Proxmoxt is starting to have a good market (at least in Europe).

Question: Does the community consider ProxMox as an option to build virtual environments replacing VMware ?

Thanks

Hello

I'm joining this conversation because we're evaluating alternatives to vmware and Proxmox seems to be very interesting for SMB.

Anyway If Dell is not supporting it on PowerEdge servers we are cannot propose it to the customers so they will prefer public cloud migration. Some customers have already taken this decision so Dell has lost some sales (we sell public cloud migration and maintenance, so for us it's the same).

I think Dell should think about it.

Hello

I set up a Dell infrastructure using Proxmox and encountered a hardware issue with one of the nodes, which started rebooting continuously after several months of use.

As soon as Dell support found out I was using Proxmox, they said they wouldn’t proceed any further unless the server was running a certified operating system.

After reformatting the server (which was quite difficult), it became clear that the problem was with the motherboard and replace motherboard.

@paulone this is exactly the reason why I will not install a non-supported OS on a new server for a customer.

In the past I had many problems like the one you mention with many vendors, sometimes for minor updates (think about a tape drive not reading any tape with a amber led signaling failure and the support wasn't replacing it because the OS installed was RedHat Enterprise Linux 5.4 and they were certifying up to 5.3 for the server).

I'm going to wait for Dell certification before starting to install Proxmox on customer's PowerEdge servers; while waiting for it I'll choose another vendor or, more likely, the public cloud.

As of today, it seems that DELL has no intention to support Proxmox.

Lenovo has an agreement with Proxmox where Proxmox says which models are certified
