Added disks, but cannot create array

Hi

Just added 2 73Gb 15k drives to my PE4600, initialized them fine. Now trying to create the virtual disk, but I am getting the least helpful message I've seen - 'operation failed'. Nothing shows up in event viewer since the initialization. I've tried manually and using the wizard, it shows the drives fine, they are checked, can change the raid options etc, but as soon as I click Finish - 'operation failed'.

Any ideas before I have to stay late AGAIN to reboot?!

Cheers

Mike

Mike,

mostly this message appears when PERC driver, PERC firmware and Dell OpenManage ArrayManager versions are not 100% compatible. Sometimes a backgroud task like "consistency check" or "battery reconditioning" can cause this too.

Depending on the level of firmware you have a BGI might be running (Background initialization). Everytime a new volume is created on the newer firmwares a BGI will be run to check the consistency of the drive. You can cancel this operation from Ctrl+M or Array Manager. The BGI will resume after a few minutes to complete it's tasks. This will not hinder any OS operation.
