Adding a RAID\SCSI Drive

I have a P.E.1850, factory from dell that came with 1 drive on the Perc controller configured in RAID 0. I picked up another identical drive (segate 36gb 15K SCSI) referb online and put it in the box.  When i load the RAID config utility it will not let me initilize the drive, the drive info says the size of drive is "---" and that the drive has 32 media errors.

Do i need to first format the drive before i will be able to config it with the RAID controller, if so what utility do i use to do this?

Or did i just get a bad drive?

Thanks guys, sorry i am new to RAID!!

Did you get a new drive carrier with the refurb drive? The filler carriers should not be used with a drive.

Now for the 32 media error report, with that many errors, it's likely to continue generating additional errors even if you do a low level format using a SCSI controller to remap the current errors. I would not recommend using that drive for anything except perhaps storing temporary files. With the drive size not reporting, it's likely you cannot use the drive at all, no matter what you try.
