Adding drive space to PowerEdge R430
Hi, I have a Dell PowerEdge R430 server with 4 - 4TB drives set up in a RAID 5 configuration. I have 2 partitions. C: is 100 GB and the balance is on E: (roughly 13 TB) for data storage.
The chassis only holds 4 physical drives. Can I purchase larger drives, swap them with the 4 TB in some way to create more storage on the server without having to wipe it and start from scratch? Or do I need to purchase some type of external storage array and have the data span the 2 devices?
Thanks!

Hi,
What RAID controller are you using? Depending on the controller you could replace the drives one at a time, let them rebuild and then in OMSA choose the option for online capacity expansion.

Hi Josh, That is encouraging news! The server has the following for a RAID controller. PERC H730 Integrated RAID controller, 1 GB Cache.
It currently has 4 - 4TB 7.2K RPM NLSAS 6Gbps 3.5 in Hot Plug hard drives, 13G. If I can swap out a drive, let it rebuild and continue until they are all swapped do you know the part number for the larger drives I need to order? Keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks Josh!
