Degraded RAID 1 Array

Hi,

I have a Dell Power Edge that is indicating a degraded RAID 1 array.  The physical drives have the following status:

Drive 0:0, Online, capacity 465.75GB, Used RAID Disk Space: 465.75GB Available Space: 0GB

Drive 0:1, Ready, capacity 465.75GB, Used RAID Disk Space: 0.50GB Available Space: 465.25GB

Virtual Disk 1, State: Degraded

Please advise on how to resolve this.

Thanks,

Nate

Hello

You need to look at the virtual disk details to view the member disks. It looks like PD 1 fell out of the array somehow. A ready state means the disk is ready to be used, it is not currently being used for anything. You should be able to set PD1 as a hot spare to have it rebuild into the RAID 1.

Thanks

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for the quick reply.  I was unable to access the server until today (8/30) to check on this.

The only action available for PD1 is to set "Assign Global Hot Spare".  Is this the correct action?

Thanks,

Nate

Yes, if you assign it as a hot spare that should initiate a rebuild. You may want to run diagnostics on the drives first. Also, you should review any available hardware logs to see what may have caused the problem. Many of our controllers have logging capabilities, you can export a TTY/controller log from those controllers to get detailed information of what happened with the drive. The general rule of thumb is if your controller has write cache it has a log, the logs are stored in the cache.

If you are unable to properly review the log you can post a URL to it and I will review it. Please do not copy/paste the log into a reply. Either upload the text file or use a text sharing site like pastebin and provide a URL.

Thanks
