Dell PowerEdge R630 nvme disks

Hello everyone,

I have a PowerEdge R630 server and need to connect nvme disks to it. Are there any original adapters I can use to do this?

If you have 10 X 2.5 backplane config you can use 4 NVMe drives on it provided you have an extender card connected to the PCIe slot which is connected to the backplane with a specific cable. "GY1TD" is the part# of extender card. Refer this Link for details

Another option is to have NVMe HHHL card on PCIe Slot. Refer Link for supported slot and number of cards (Refer NVMe PCIe SSD line item) for HHHL card.

Below are part# of HHHL card supported in R630

K2JF1 - CRD,NVME,3.2,HHHL,PM1725B
P1J3W - CRD,NVME,750GB,HHHL,P4800X
WD66N - CRD,NVME,375GB,HHHL,P4800X
335Y0 - CRD,NVME,6.4,HHHL,PM1735
78RG7 - CRD,NVME,1.6,HHHL,PM1725B
2H9FJ - CRD,NVME,6.4,HHHL,PM1725B
3GFMW - CRD,NVME,1.6,HHHL,PM1735

No. R630 8X2.5 backplane does not support NVMe drives. Only 10X2.5 backplane ofR630 support NVMe drives

using this cable: GY1TD

it seems there is 4 connector for backplane.. and the other side 4 connector for raid hardware or S130 ? which one?

GY1TD is part number of extender card which is supported on R630. This card can be used to connect R630 10X2.5 backplane with cable K9TVP  to enable 4 NVMe drives.

4 port will get connected to the NVMe ports on the X10 backplane. It will be marked as Port A, B, C and D on the backplane. Refer below picture

okay

when we use GY1TD adaptor nvme..

do we need to remove PERC H730? or can we use both controller?

H730 is required to manage SAS/SATA drives on the backplane. GY1TD is used to connect NVMe drives to the system.

Hello,

no you still use PERC H730 as controller. GY1TD is not a controller, but a SSD extender card.

Thanks

yes ssd nvme detected right now.. but the front bay led is blinking yellow.. does it normal?

i have tried install os and check the nvme ssd perfromance. surprisingly i only got around 1GB/s.

meanwhile if we take out the ssd nvme drive, and put back.. the nvme performance is drop to around 500MB/s.. so i have to reboot the server then writing speed back to 1GB/s
