The H800 will work with SAS expanders, but I don't know if it will work with just any old generic device ... see if someone can provide some first-hand experience with something other than a Dell storage device.
Also, be careful with the Reds ... they are not just generally compatible with everything - WD makes NO attempt at compatibility with servers/systems and have tested it only with storage devices ... check the compatibility list for the Reds for whichever device you intend to use.
I saw the h800 would work with sas expanders in the documentation. The documentation also says the h800 does not work with sata hdds. It was not clear if it would work with a sas expander with sata hdd on the expander. As for the reds, I was going to check the sas expander doc/website to see if the would work. If not I would select another type of drive suited for a direct attached storage system. T
this is a project in progress. I am hoping to eliminate the network strain I have from the server accessing my nas, plus a monster storage drive is always nice to have.
