difference between PERC6i SATA/SAS Controller and PERC6I Controller Card
Hi, Whats the difference between PERC6i SATA/SAS Controller and PERC6I Controller Card.
Can I connect SATA drives to PERC6I Controller Card?
This link compares two products.
Thanks in advance!!

The comparison shows a few differences, but from what I've ever seen on Dell's site there is:
- PERC6i integrated (only compatible with certain model servers)
- PERC6i (regular PCIe slot version)
- PERC6E
The first 2 are the same card, but the integrated one doesn't have the metal bracket to hold it in a regular slot; instead it has some plastic pieces to fit it in specific places in servers like the 1950 or 2950 (probably others too).
The PERC6E is for use with the MD1000 or MD1120 as it has external ports only to attach those enclosures.

Looking on Ebay the PERC6i integrated does look like the 'regular' PERC6i, except for the missing bracket to hold it in the slot properly.
When you compare the PE2950's hardware owner's guide section on the SAS/PERC daughter card (here) to the picture/drawing of the PERC6i on page 43 of the PERC6/CERC6-series user guide (here), it also looks like it might be the same card.
If you want to pick up the integrated version and put it in a regular slot, be sure to find an old slot-bracket and concoct some way to attach it to the card as a raid controller shouldn't have only the PCIe slot to keep it in the system/slot.

The PERC 6/i Integrated will work on a PCIe x8 slot.
PERC 6 controllers have the potential to offer the best performance if connected to a PCIe x8 slot that has being wired as a x8 (note: PCIe x8 can be wired as x4's).
