Difficulty getting R630 to identify the HBA330 Mini PERC vs S130 (software) Perc
We purchased a R630 and ran the configuration to set all setting back to factory reset to insure we have no unusual configurations left from the prior use of the machine.
Upon booting with RAID enabled in the Bios, and hitting Cntr R at bootup, the PERC S130 is launching. We don't want to use this and instead we want to use the PERC HBA 330 Mini card. We can't seem to get the system to recognize the PERC HBA 330 Mini.
How do i disable the PERC S130 and Enable the HBA 330 Mini to allow me to set the RAID configuration on the new SSD Drives?
I've confirmed in the Avago Configuration that the PERC HBA 330 Mini is being recongized but i can't get it to replace the PERC S130.

Hello DanChe,
To disable the S130 - Disable the RAID setting on the embedded SATA controller
Boot to System Settings > SATA Settings > Embedded SATA: set to AHCI
BIOS > Boot mode set to > BIOS boot mode
Save, Exit, Reboot and check results
Do you mean that you have an H330 mini?
Note: the HBA330 does not do RAID.

Hi Charles. Thanks for the quick reply. The System Setup shows the Integrated Storage Controller1: is a Dell HBA330 Mini (PCIStop:0x0). Inside the unit, it's connected to the PERC cable and therefore I thought it was a Raid Controller and thought it was the H330 MiniMono. (The tag shows DP/N OP2R3R). I suspect you are right. It's not the Mini Mono but the HBA330.
Okay, then I suspect that leaves me with utilizing the Onboard S130 for setting the RAID.
Which is okay given we don't have the H330 Mini Mono.
But here's my next issue. We were orginally wiling to use the on board S130 but when we hit Cntr R, we are not seeing any Physical Disks in the Utility. We have two brand new Samsung SSD 4TB drives.
We do see the drives during normal boot up, but they are not visible in the RAID S130 BIOS Configuration Utility. BTW the build on this PERC S130 Bios Conf Utility screen shows (4.2.0-009)
How do we get it to recognize the two new drives?

Hello as seen in the manual, I think the S130 has to be connected to the mainboard not to the controller H330.

Hi Charles. I checked inside and the unit and things appear to be connected correctly and securely. The drive backplane's cable runs directly over to the large motherboard. There is also large PERC cable running from the HSA330 over to a smaller board in front of the drive backplane and that is also secure.
Running a diagnostic through the LIfecycle Configuration everything checks out and I do see that the 2 Samsung drives are showing as connected to the HSA330.
So, if the HSA330 sees the drive, how do we switch that over to the S130?
I'm not understanding how to fix that. Do you suggest replacing the HSA330 with a 330 mini mono and going that route or even taking out the HSA330 altogether and leaving that slot empty? I saw one video saying that the PERC cable needs to be installed in order for drives to be detected but it wasn't clear if the cable needs to be connected into a PERC card (i.e., the HSA330 or Mini Mono) or if it would work wihtout anything in the PERC card space.
Not sure what next to try.
Thanks
Dan

Hello DanChe,
To get the S130 enabled for raid:
Boot to System Settings > SATA Settings > Embedded SATA: RAID
Take a look at this video for OS install process.
If you are using physical media you can skip the part about connecting Virtual Media.
You can also put the S130 driver for your OS on a thumb drive and supply it that way.
Installing Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 on PERC S130 controller by using virtual media in UEFI mode

Removing the HBA330 would be good and if you have or can get an H330 mini you could do that.

Yes, per your advise above
"To get the S130 enabled for raid:
Boot to System Settings > SATA Settings > Embedded SATA: RAID"
This was always the case. i enabled RAID initially and confirmed this is still the case.
I watched the video link above and went into the Device settings and into the S130 Controller but under the Create Virtual Disc menu everything is grayed out. Nothing can be selected to create a Virtual Disc. There also is nothing under the physical discs menu that can be selected as well.
It's still seems like the S130 can't locate the drives which is the main issue. .
I also went ahead after this attempt, and opened and disconnected the HBA330 Mini leaving the cable screwed into the monther board but the space empty. But upon boot up, i now get a new message saying:
CBL0009 Backplane 1 connector A0 is not connected
CBL0009 Backplane 1 connector B0 is not connected
Therefore, it appears that leving it empty will not work either. I'll put that back in place now.
Anything else i should try? Happy to send screen shots or explain any other settings as well.
Thanks for the help.

Hello at this point I’m wondering if you should go back to using a S130…wondering if using H330 is causing the issue. Can you try running the service without the H330?

I can try. I don't know how to disable the H330 without physically disconnecting it, in which case i get that other hardware error mentioned above.
Can you recommend some instructions to disable it?

DanChe,
It would be a matter of removing the controller. Now just to clarify, where you currently are you can see the drives on the HBA, but not the S130? If so then that is a cabling issue. Page 131 here shows how the system should be cabled for the S130, where the later pages show the cabling when the controller is installed.
Would you confirm which configuration your system currently looks to be?
Let me know if this helps.

Correct. on bootup i can see the drives and when i run a diagnostic, i can see they are listed along with the HSA330. But when we go into the RAID controller for the S130, it does not show any drives.
The Cable is currently connected into the SAS backplan expander card. shown on page 133 of the link above
Are you suggesting that i change the cable and disconnect from the expander board and plug directly into the backplane (like on Page 131)? There are a couple of other cables coming from the expander board. Woould i leave those in the expander board?
(btw - this R630 is a 10 bay harddrive unit with no CD/Rom in front).
Attached are a few pictures.

If your end goal is to use the S130 then you will need to. The configuration you are set for, and what the picture look to support, is that it was configured and cabled for a hardware controller previously.
Let me know what you see.
