Failed disk warning - false alert?
Hello,
I have a PE 2650 with a PERC 3/Di controller that is displaying a warning LED for a failed hard disk. None of the hard drives are blinking amber and they all appear to be in good, working order. I'm running OMSA 5.4 on the server and the drives all show as online.
The only warning in OMSA is that the firmware is out of date (it's behind by a few build numbers).
My question is - is it possible a drive has failed but because the firmware is old, OMSA can't tell if there is a failed disk or not? Regardless of OMSA, wouldn't the drive blink amber?
This server is going to be retired in a few months and I don't want to start updating firmware if it will function just fine until its end.
Thanks for any suggestions.
The warning code is ED076 'Failed Disk'.

Regardless of the OMSA software the drive should blink amber. Have you tried booting to the controller to see what is shows? Updating the controller fw might help.
