Is your R720XD configured to have 3.5" x 12 backplane with 2.5" X 2 rear backplane?
When you have installed the drives and when the server is on, does the drive LED lights up? You mentioned you have check that the drives are compatible, are they Dell drives or 3rd party? Do you have the DPN#?
You mentioned you have used OEM PERC, I'm unsure what do you mean that, what PERC model do you have there? Unfortunately, Dell PERC that have been reflashed beyond Dell PERC firmware, we cannot guarantee that it will work on your R720XD
Apologies, by OEM I meant the software. I have two H710 Minis, one flashed using https://fohdeesha.com/docs/H710-D1.html which was successful and one which is untouched and not flashed to anything. I was testing using both to see if there was an issue with the PERC, but it seemed as if it wasn't that. Yes, it is the 12 x 3.5" + 2 x 2.5". When I power on the server, the lights flash to show that they have power, but I would have to go to the server to test it again to see how exactly they behave. When I go there I will also look at the drives that are in there to provide the information.
Since you mentioned that the drives are detect at the rear backplane, I assumed that the SAS cabling internally are correct. Here the user guide just in case: https://dell.to/3qeo0lX
If it's a 3.5" backplane, ideally you need 3.5" SAS/SATA drives to be connected, as there might be concerns about connectivity on the drive interface.
Aside from the backplane and drive connectivity, are the drives that you have Dell certified drives?
The three HDDs in the front are 3.5" 10TB Seagate EXOS Enterprise X10s. Of the one I pulled, the info is ST10000NM0086 PN: 2AA101-005 FW: SN05, though I believe they are all from the same batch. Is there a specific list where I can look to check to see if they are certified compatible? Or do I have to buy them from a specific marketplace? Thank you for your time. I will look at the SAS cables later today just to double check their connections.
