Installing Windows NT

I am unable to install windows NT on Dell Precision Workstation 420, because when Booting from Cd and getting to a point where it say if you want to add additional hard drive controller drivers I insert the Adaptec Ultra 160 driver disk and it looks fine and it installs the driver, but on the next screen where it suppose to find the hard drive it comes up with an error message that it could not find the hard drive. Anyone knows what should I do? Thank you very much.

I had a similar problem with a Precision 620 when installing NT from the CD, hard disk not found after loading SCSI driver. Installing NT from the install floppies as opposed to the CD fixed the problem, not sure why. Good Luck.

To be able to reinstall NT on the 420 or 620 systems, you will need to press F6 at the message 'Please wait while NT detects the hardware on your system'. This will allow you to manually load the drivers for the SCSI controller on the system.

NT doesn't give you the option to press F6. The drivers from the disk load properly but NT fails to find a disk drive even after they are loaded from the floppy.
