Need help to setup Raid
Hardware
-PowerEdge 2450
-Bios Revision A08,
-2 667 Mhz processors, 133 Mhz, L2 cache 256k, 1GB RAM,
-2 18.2GB ST318452LC SCSI Hard disks on Channel A.
-Adaptec AIC-7899 Bios V25306
Embedded sever management firmware 5.21
Primary Backplane controller firmware 1.15
secondary backplane controller firmware 1.15
Would appreciate if some one can give me some help on setting up my server RAID system. Can't find the Installation CDs when I took over from some one.

Kindly advice how can i download all the assistance/installation CDs come together with the PowerEdge 2450 server?

Open your browser
Go to support.dell.com
Click on drivers and downloads
Click the option to enter your tag
Enter the service tag number of your server
In the left hand column, choose Manuals
In the centre window, choose Download manuals
This should take you to a screen that lists all the manuals for this server

Sir,
Thank you for your advice, I've download the relevent docs from Support.Dell.com.
My Hardware configuration:
-Dell PowerEdge 2450 BIOS Version A08
-Two 667MHz processors, 133MHz processor bus, 256KB L2 Cache
-1GB Memory
-Adaptec AIC-7899 SCSI BIOS version v25306
-Two IBM-ESXS ST318452LC SCSI HDDs
PowerEdge 2450 Firmware loaded:
-Embedded server management firmware revision 5.21
-Primary system backplane controller firmware revision 1.15
-Secondary system backplane controller firmware revision 1.15
My Misson:
To do a RAID 1 so that HDD 0 and HDD 1 can be mirror.
My Questions:
1. My onboard RAID hardware key and RAID DIMM are both empty. Can you please confirm is these two items optional or it is shipped together with the server by default.
-How do i setup Raid 1 after installing Raid hardware key and Dimm module
-what are the items i need to pay particular attention during the configuration of Raid.
2. I've another external Compaq smart array 221 Raid controller with me. Is the Compaq Raid controller compatible with your PowerEdge 2450? If it is compatible, could you kindly advice us on the procedures to setup this controller?
3. One of my ST318452LC HDD cannot be detected. I've try swaping to different slots but to no avail. Did a 'CTRL A', SCSI utility reported that 'No device present'. Does it mean the HDD is faulty?
hard disk LED panel indicator light: power led: green, hdd reading led: green and blinking, hdd bad led:nil
I can't do a low level formatting on this hdd as scsi cannot detect this hdd.
Is there a way to revive this hdd?
