PCIe controller error

I had an error with my PCIe controller on my Dell Poweredge 840. I'm operating Windows Server 2003. I unplugged the PCIe controller and the system ran just fine. I read that if the system runs then it is the motherboard. So I replaced the motherboard and now I don't get anything. Not sure if there is a specific way to hook everything back up. am I missing something here?

I figured it out I just had a loose connection. But I still have a PCIe error. Where can I buy a new PCIe controller?

"Am I missing something here?"

Potentially a LOT of things.

  • Did you replace the board with the right model?  What is the part number?
  • Did you follow the instructions in the manual (found at link below)?
  • How experienced are you at replacing motherboards?

Chances are your "controller" was bad.  What "controller" was it?  The RAID controller?
