Jessie,

This error is normally due to an issue with the ROMB dimm. Now in order to check on it you need to power the server down and then remove the ROMB battery FIRST. Otherwise you can damage the dimm, as the battery keeps the dimm slot powered. After the battery is removed then reseat the dimm and then reinsert the battery. If reseating the dimm does not resolve the issue then you will need to replace the 256MB dimm (part number 4D554).

Let me know if this helps.

You don't need to remove the actual battery ... there is a cable going from the battery to the riser board ... unplug the battery cable.  You should reseat the riser as well.

"can i replace the 256MB dimm  to 512mb dimm, it is so hard to get this part this days? "

Only 256MB will work, and it can't just be any 256MB PC2-3200R DIMM.  While you  might find a generic DIMM that will work, it isn't very likely, so I would strongly recommend you get the DIMM with the correct layout, timings, etc. for the RAID controller ... the Dell part Chris listed.  They aren't that hard to find:

No.  You must replace the memory before there will be ANY functioning of the OS.  You could disable RAID and reinstall then run Windows with the machine in SCSI only mode (disabling RAID), but that would require wiping everything out.

Jessie,

The dimm needs to be a 256MB. It won't recognize anything larger. We don't currently carry that dimm, but if you do a search for this part number (4D554) on the web, there should be some available.
