If that's not accepted, you may have to buy a new card, as something like this is likely not covered under Dell warranty.

Bogi. I seem to be having the same problem. In my case, I bought the controller off an E-Bay seller described as LSI MegaRAID 320/2e, only to discover it's a pull from a Dell machine that returns the same error message (RAID Key Authentication Error) when installed in an "alien" box. I tried flashing it with Intel repair kit that is supposed to clean up everything, but the message didn't go away. I'm wondering if there is a way to "unlock" the Dell OEM version of this controller (LSI makes them for Dell, Intel, Acer, NEC and also markets them directly).
If there are any Dell product support engineers in the Forum, would you please shed some light on this?
Thanks!

Bogi, what I described in my earlier post may actually help you. Here's what you can try.
- put a jumper on J11 on the controller (it's to the bottom/right of the SDRAM connector); install the card and power up; the POST message will complain about currupted BIOS, ignore it;
- flush the Dell PERC 4e/DC firmware (I believe, 521X is the latest) from a floppy; it will also complain about currupted BIOS, but should download to the card;
- power down, pull the card, remove the J11 jumper, reinstall the card and restart -- you should have a working PERC 4e/DC.

Dell does not have an XP driver but the LSI driver can be modified to run, refer to the 2CPU forum under "storage"

Apologies for the late followup...

I couldn't find anything on that forum about modifying the LSI driver. Do you have a more specific
reference please?
I've fallen into the same trap, bought an "LSI" card off eBay, but it was of course a Dell PERC 4e/DC,
not a standard LSI.
I've downloaded & tried just about every driver there is. If it's possible to modify the LSI driver,
how do I do this?
Hmm, would upgrading to XP SP3 help at all?
I'm worried about flashing the BIOS with the normal LSI version and breaking the card. If it doesn't
work, can I put back the Dell BIOS?
Heh, it's ironic, I've always wanted to have proper PCIX or equivalent speed after getting so used
to it in my earlier Dell 650 (I had a Maxtor Atlas 15K II 147GB system disk, and a RAID 0 stripe
of 3 x Fujitsu 147GB 15Ks). I have a different system now (ASUS M2N32 WS Pro), but the LSI
20-2E card I bought for $200 turned out to be a Dell... :D

I looked around a few months back, and could not find the reference on 2CPU again, it is there some place.
I never personally flashed a 4E, I have flashed every LSI based model below it with the LSI firmware..used to be a piece of cake, no issues, as was using the LSI drivers on a Perc.
On 2CPU, if the user TEX is still around , he used to hang out on the storage forum, he would be the best to ask about the driver modification.

Found it! 8) The relevant thread is here:
I have a slightly different and unexpected problem now though. Installing the modified drivers worked
ok for the first of the two controllers on the card, which is now shown in Device Manager as:
However, it did not work for the second controller, or at least only partially. The device ID was different,
so I added a similar entry to the above (amending due to the different ID, etc.), but after installing the
driver this is what is shown in Device anager:
Any ideas?
So close... :D
Thanks! :)
