Perc 4e/Si

I Have a PowerEdge 2850 server running W3K, it has a PERC 4e/si with two Raid1 Logical drives. I have two more drives I want to add to the 2nd logical drive. Can I expand the Raid1 to Raid 5 without losing data, or, can I build another Raid1 with the two new drives? is there documantation for either option?

Hi PD001,

You can either add the 2 drives to the second logical drive and reconfigure to a Raid 5 or you can create a new Raid 1.  The easiest way to do this is with Server Administrator which you can download here.  You can find documentation on each procedure here.

Dennis,
if I install the Open manage Server Administrator software on my server , will this allow me to reconstruct my raid 1 to raid 5(with 2 addititional HD's) while in windows and my data up and running?

Pd,

You can reconstruct while the system is up.  However, adding the 2 drives and reconstructing is a very lengthy process and response times from the drives while trying to access data may be very slow.  It is recommended that you perform this after hours.
