PERC 6/i RAID 1 Initialization
I bought 2 totally new hard drives to replace my poweredge 1950 hard drives.
I have done setup both hard drive to RAID-1, created VD and i just quit the config screen.
I restarted the server and installed ESXi 4.1.
After installed and booted into ESXi, i found out the health status of Hard drive on my vm client tools display a warning for parity check.
So i rebooted into RAID config, found out the initialization is actually still on the progress, it showed 50%.
My question is:
1. Do I have to wait the initialization to be done before install anything?
2. The initialization process auto started? Is this a background initialization? Because I never execute the initialization.
3. Now initialization is done, ESXi is working fine too. Any issue if I just leave it like this? Or do I need to re-install ESXi? Are the data are safe or consistent in both drive?

And, yes, there are times that, inexplicably, even installing an OS requires the init to complete before it works properly ... I have only seen that once in the hundreds of installs I've done though.

No, you don't have to wait until it is complete to install an OS. The only time you would need to wait for it is if you plan to simply fill the drive by immediately copying the disk's worth of files to it.
All VD's should be Initialized before use (except for certain recovery scenarios). Regardless of whether you chose a "full" initialization or not (again, if this is a new VD, you should do a full init), a background initialization will occur to adjust the RAID mapping of the VD.
If it seems to be working fine, you can probably leave it, even not having done a full init - the reason for doing a full init is to ensure previous RAID data/metadata remnants are removed, creating a more stable RAID array. I would run a Consistency Check at this point ... if all turns out ok, you should be fine.

Well, not much respoonse here at that hour. I am sure it is built by now. It is a bit of a grey area if you can install ESX while the raid is initializing with the 6i. Supposed to work, but I have read reports of issues too.
