Perc H700 - "Predictive failure" question

Hi!

We have a PowerEdge R715 server that's configured with a RAID5 (6 SAS 600GB disks).

One of them is showing a predictive failure message.

I have another disk that was removed from another server, but I don't know if it was cleaned before removal.

I've been reading some material this morning and basically, what I have to do is:

  1. Go on OMSA and select Offline... on the disk with the failure1.png
  2. Then wait for the disk to be offline and remove it physically
  3. Plug in the replacement disk and wait for RAID to be rebuilt
  4. If the RAID rebuilt operation is not being performed, reboot the server, go into RAID settings and set the disk as a Global Hot Spare

Is that ok? Is there a problem if the disk isn't cleaned up?

I need to reboot the server to set the disk as a Global Hot Spare?

What about this option: Replace Member Disk...?

Hello,

The replace member disc option is a way for you to manually replace the disk. You can also remove the bad one, insert a new one, and if it doesn't automatically begin to rebuild, just mark the new drive as a global hot-spare and the PERC will do the rest automatically. All of this can be done from within OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA). If the drive has data on it presently, you might have to choose to "Convert to RAID" for the drive, depending on the drive source.

Thanks DylanJ! I'll try that on Wednesday.
