PERC warning messages
Hi
We have a couple of servers (both 6400's) that give the warning messages below on boot. Once the server has booted it seems to function fine - no warning lights on the drives or bleeping. As all four disks are mentioned is this not what it seems? Is there actually a problem?
One box is running win2k server firmware is 1.06, driver 6.35.2.32. The other is Windows server 2003 firmware is 1.06, driver 6.41.2.32.
Cheers
Mike

If this disk is part of a redundant virtual disk, select the 'Offline' option and then replace the disk. Then configure a hot spare and it will start the rebuild automatically. If this disk is a hot spare, select the 'Prepare to Remove' option and then replace the disk. If this disk is part of a non-redundant disk, you should back-up your data immediately. If the disk fails, you will not be able to recover the data.

Those are pre-failure sense-key warnings. If I ever get those.... I replace the drives!
However - if you get them on all/several drives in an array, sometimes this is cause by the RAID information on the controller being corrupt. You can remedy by powering off, removing ALL the physical drives (noting the slot each came out of!!!) and then deleting the controller RAID information. Then, insert drives, power on, and choose to read configuration from disk. Of course, this is risky, and is dependent on your SCSI controller version and firmware. A call to dell support would not hurt here.

A 5-21-00 follows this description:
5H
Illegal request.
An illegal parameter in the command descriptor block or in the additional parameters supplied as data for some commands (for example, the Format Unit command, the Mode Select command and others). If the drive detects an invalid parameter in the CDB, it terminates the command without altering the media. If the drive detects an invalid parameter in the additional parameters supplied as data, the drive may have already altered the media.
