Perc2 SC Data Rate?

What is the data rate for the Perc2SC card, 80 or 160 Mb.
Where can I find technical spec please?

Hi Alastair,

It's 80 MB/s

For any PERC or other Dell RAID controller.

Hi Gary,
Mnay thanks. And thanks for the pointer. I was looking in wrong place as usual not under "storage". My question is as I have chance of PE6350 which has Perc2 controller and I was thinking of canabalizing it for processors (4x550MHz) and the Perc2. Any catches in this? I know I have to adjust jumper for processor speed but what else?
Regards,
Alastair.

Alaistair,

Other than updating first the ESM then the BIOS, I see no problems in moving the procs and PERC 2 to your PE6300 that we discussed in the previous thread. The speed jumpers are in the back left corner when viewed from the front, and are devilishly hard to reach. I advise pulling the system board out, to set the jumpers.

Hi Gary,
Now I am really showing my ignorance... ESM?
Best wishes,
Alastair.

Alistair,

Embedded Systems Management, it's all the voltage sensors, fan tachometers, and temperature probes, and the F/W to record any warnings or failures in the ESM log. The ESM log is viewable via the Openmanage tools.

Hi Gary,
I now have 6350/550 to canabalize for parts to upgrade 6300.
One question. The mobo jumpers only offer up to 500MHz. What jumper positions do I use for 550MHz processors?
Regards,
Alastair.

likely reserved 1.

Hi Warwizard,

Many thanks for your reply. I shall check again but I do not recall any reserved 1 beyond the 500MHz pins.

Did you see my posting elsewhere about swapping the system board for one from a 6350 machine? That would solve all the problems and the boards are almost identical.

BTW, does the absence of a fan connection or a case intrusion jumper being open circuit prevent the BIOS from loading?

Sorry to ask so many questions but I still cannot find the correct software for the ESM. I can find remote management which can read logs but the only software close to what you described is detailed as "firmware". Do I have to run that to update the ESM firmware?

Regards,
Alastair.

do the A58 ESM file first then do the A07 BIOS update

page 25 of the service manual PDF file there are rsvd 1 and rsvd 2. Rsvd 1 is used for 550 speed I believe.

Bios and ESM should be done from MSDOS Disks with no config.sys and No autoexec.bat BY HAND.

A DOS WINDOW IN NT/2000/XP IS NOT DOS. DO NOT TRY ESM FROM A DOS WINDOW IF IT DOESNT HANG IT WILL SCRAMBLE THE BIOS AND KILL THE SYSTEM.

Hi Speedstep.
Yes I understand this. Same with Dos box in OS/2. I see that some of the flash downloads are to create bootable floppies so that is what I will use. or else create bootable dos floppy.
Many thanks for the warning.

Alastair

Hi Gary,
Many thanks. I had read the manual but it doesn't actually confirm that rsvd1 is for 550MHz and I see that each time you suggest this in the forum you are slightly equivocal.
Thanks for the urls of the ESM and BIOS updates. I shall sort that out now.
BTW I went through all the downloads and couldn't identify anything but ESM firmware flash. Do I run a58cust.exe first or change the processors first?
Regards,
Alastair.

Hi WarWizard,
Well the a58cust.exe installed like a dream and all the old FW versions were updated without a hitch.

Sadly the 2500-A07.exe would not flash. I received a red message that it could not be used on 6300 server.

I note that both were available for download under a 2500 server heading and that the latest ESM update is not available under the PW6300. How do I find out and you know which BIOS update to use if not listed under the actual machine I wish to update?
Regards,
Alastair.

OOPS looks like I gave you the BIOS for a 2500, The folks that manage the file library seem to be messing with it, if you check the embedded systems management listing for the PE6300 today, you find A31 version listed as the current, and you check the other versions link and A35, A40, and A42 show up, but no A58 that was listed earlier. AARGH!!!  Lets hold off on this BIOS update till we can verify that the A58 ESM update we used was for the PE6300. I'll send a message to the folks pointing out the current errors, and they should get it fixed soon.

Yes I know I sound unsure on the RSV 1 jumper settings. I just have my memory to go on, no documentation to back me up, and I AM 50 now! lol.

Hi Gary,
Sorry, one last question. The U.84 PercII flash offers two options, cluster or not, (U.84 or C.81 images)
The existing is Uc.77. I believe I should not use cluster but am troubled by the "c" in the present firmware. Can you please confirm which I should use?
Regards,
Alastair.
