poweredge 2400 perc 2/si errors
I have a powerdedge 2400 (
G0PV901) with a perc2/si card running firmware 2.8-0 build 6089 and driver version as it is reported in device manager is 2.8.0.6085. The Dell array mgr utility version 3.5.0 build 555.4 reports when I do a Driver/firmware versions from the help menu that I am running firmware 6089 and driver 6076 which is obviously wrong. The Server administrator software version 1.7 reports 2.80 bld 6089. In addition my system event log is filling up with event id 4097 and the message "
\Device\AFA0 : SCSI Channel[0]: Timeout Detected On 1 Command(s) "
This server was just upgraded to w2k and sp4 from NT 4. I have all the latest bios, firmware etc. All the same hardware, drives etc. have remained the same and under NT4 never reported a days trouble.
Any ideas?

Event Type: Error
Event Source: perc2
Event Category: None
Event ID: 9
Date: 5/19/2004
Time: 11:32:02 PM
User: N/A
Computer: MAVAPS1
Description:
The device, \Device\Scsi\perc21, did not respond within the timeout period.
I started and ended my own thread regarding this very thing in the PowerEdge/Win 2003 forum. For the last 3 months I've been messing with this server, trying every different hardware/software config to get it to run Win 2003 without errors.
No luck...

I am also getting the exact same error message. This is on the same server, PE 2400 that was just upgraded from NT 4.0 to Windows Server 2003 and upgraded all firmware and drivers.
I am looking for an answer as to why this is occuring.

Rebuilding and reformatting my PE2400, Perc 2/SI machine for the last couple months seemed to kill the controller. I got Timeout errors just trying to get into the SCSI Bios.
So I removed the RAID memory DIMM and rebooted and the Bios message was "Raid Hardware Missing" or something and the controller reverted back to an AIC 7890 controller, BIOS v.25701...with no RAID BIOS option. I reinstalled the DIMM and the RAID BIOS still didn't come back. No biggie, in the controller initialization I still saw all my disks.
I booted off the Win 2003 cd and installed the O/S to my first SCSI drive. Got into Windows, did my mirroring on the 1st two 18 gig drives and mirrored the 2nd two 36 gig drives for data. Plus another standalone drive for a print spooler.
After 48 hours and testing moving 3 files that were 2+ gigs each from disk to disk...I've gotten NO timeout errors or slowdowns. I have gotten 1 timeout error I believe on the SCSI CD-ROM, but I believe that's because Windows booted up with a CD in there. Took that out and not a single error since.
I'll live without Array Manager and OSM...
