PowerEdge 2450 RAID 5 Container Missing
I currently have a 2450 with Perc 3/si which has been running fine for two years..until last night. I had to reboot and received a message that the RAID was in 'critical' mode. After getting into the CCU menu I saw that the 4th drive (3rd id) was a missing member. I tried to troubleshoot and get it to work to no avail. All the firmware on the card and the MB are upgraded, as well as the BIOS and ESM. At this point I thought it might have been the hard-drive, so I bought a new one. Still won't see it even after formating and initialization.
I also tried CTRL-R in the CCU menu and this didn't work as well. So now I am at a point where I don't really know what to do. I could rebuild the container (I have a COMPLETE recent backup) but I am concerned that once I do this I won't even be able to build a container. So do I try this or leave it limping along with 3 harddrives?? Or buy three more harddrives and try a whole new rebuild?
Also: the server boots fine and runs fine at this point besides the missing member.
Here's some information I found out:
In the CCU Disk manager the PERC card sees the 4th drive with no problems. I can format it or check the media just fine. Then when I go to the CCU/Container screen it shows that HD as a missing member. At the container screen if I hit CTRL-S it tells me there are no drives available with 36GIG to complete this action
Thanks

Try deleting the orphan / dead patrion (single stripe in the array that was the failed drive) then assign the new drive as the hot spare.
