You must clear the foreign configuration. Go to Storage, PERC, Information/Configuration (link at top of page), then Foreign/Clear from the dropdown menu of Available Tasks for the controller. Then you can assign the disk as a hot-spare to start the rebuild.

I think it is probably just related to the drivers/firmware. Update the BIOS first, then ESM, then PERC driver, then PERC firmware, then backplane (and other system firmware - NIC, DRAC, etc.) ... I'm guessing the warnings will disappear.

You want Foreign Configuration Options ... you will have the option to Clear.

Thanks THEFLASH1932!
You are fast!! I've done as requested, and clearing the HDD now also. I'll try to add as a HOT SPARE and revert back with my setup. Thanks again for saving my behind.. well, my company's rear!
PS - Either way I'll revert back with what has happened. Trying to clean this messup in our network.
Appreciated!

Here is the current status: Assigned new HDD after clear of data in OMSA and chose "Assign Global Hot Spare. The Physical Disks now have green checkmark box.
Here is what I am seeing on the server in OMSA:

It's saying both enclosure/backplane are in degraded state. How can I resolve this?
Thank you,

It may simply be referring to the firmware being out of date (drivers, PERC and backplane firmware). If you follow it down into the enclosure/backplane, does it show where the issue is? Is it with a physical disk? The one you just put in? What is the make/model of the disk you put in to replace the failed disk?

For the storport error:
I've installed some MS Hotfixes:
KB932755 - An updated Storport storage driver is available for Windows Server 2003
KB939315 - You receive a "Stop 0x0000009C" error message, or the system stops responding, when you shut down a computer that is running the Microsoft Storport storage driver in Windows Server 2003 SP2
KB957910 - A Windows Server 2003 SP2-based iSCSI boot server cannot generate dump files if the server uses a Storport virtual miniport as the LUN controller
KB935561 - A Windows Server 2003-based computer stops responding when the system is under a heavy load and when the Storport driver is being used
KB943545 - This issue occurs because of a logic error in the Storport.sys process that prevents the driver from returning the correct data for SCSI bus 8.
5.2.3790.4173
Waiting to restart server to see if that work ok. Do you think that many is recommended, the answer is scattered all over the net from different groups on what combo's should be installed.
OS = Windows Server 2003 SP2 [x86]
Thank you again!

Thank you!
I've added this MS KB938486 Hotfix along with the others listed earlier in this thread to Add/Remove Programs under Show Updates Checkbox in CP.
Here is the new added physical disk which showed OK in OMSA:

THEFLASH1932,
Once again, you are correct! The only thing I did was the MS Hotfxes listed in this thread and now my 2950 is in great shape!
Final pic of PERC 6/i fixed:

Upgrading the Storport Driver is what finally fixed everything. Appreciate your help!
