Poweredge R410 SAS External Controller question.

I have a Poweredge R410 that has a Perc 6/i installed and I am looking to install a Dell SAS 6GB External Controller so I can have an external SAS port for a tape drive.  Does the 6/i use the port I need to install this?  Or is there still a PCIx slot available?

Thank you.

So there are two slots on the riser?

Yes, the white PCIe slot on the riser is the integrated storage slot. The black slot is an x16 slot that is used for add-on cards.

So there are two slots on the riser?  One is the integrated slot you mentioned?  Or is the riser not used at all for the Perc 6?

Hello mboyett5620

The PERC 6 integrated uses the integrated storage slot. The external controller should be installed into the other slot, so yes you can install both at the same time.

Thanks

I still need some help. I went to install that card and the main controller is installed in the black slot. So I can't install my card. Is it possible to move that controller down to the white slot? Would it start up?

No, there is a specific controller type that goes into the white slot. You can try, but I doubt it would work. The integrated version of the controller connects to the white integrated storage slot. The adapter version of the controller goes into a normal PCI slot like the black one.

Thanks
