Poweredge R515 PERC H700 RAID Controller: Raid 10+5 VMware: adding 4th drive to raid 5 array
Hi
We have a server with VMware installed. The bios raid config (CTRL+R) shows 4 disks in raid 10 and 3 in raid 5. We need to add a 4th disk into the raid 5. I don't think this is a good idea and have suggested we refresh the server before attempting this. To confirm...
Can we even add another drive to the raid 5 array? If I'm seeing the raids in the raid bios, doesn't that mean that I would need to back up the entire array (5) and then add the drives and then restore to add the drive? If memory serves, the only way to hot add drives to a raid 5 is to use OMSA while the server is on. Insights?
Thank you.

Hi,
Can you private message me the service tag so we can get some additional information?
You are correct that you have to use OMSA while the server is on to do a reconstruct on the array. You can use our live image http://www.dell.com/support/home/ca/en/cabsdt1/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=CWF92 or you can use OMSA for Vmware. http://www.dell.com/support/home/ca/en/cabsdt1/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=8D1H0
