PowerEdge R720 Virtual Disk issue
Hi, our company has purchased a Dell PowerEdge R720. I tried to use the Lifecycle Controller in configuring the RAID. Initially it has 3 HDD all 500GB SAS but I ordered an additional 2x 320GB SAS because what I intend to do is, use the 2x 320GB as OS setup as RAID 1, and RAID 5 on the default 3x 500GB, but for some reason, whenever I setup RAID, either on both 320GB or the 3x 500GB, it just shows one virtual disk, either the 2x 320GB or the 3x 500GB, i cant see both virtual disks for RAID 1 and RAID 5. Am I missing something here? or do I need to perform an additional step?
Regards,
Jeff

Hello Jeff,
If you are trying to install operating system through Lifecycle controller method. you need to have latest Lifecycle controller OS driver pack installed in your system. For latest OS driver pack, please download from our support site http://support.dell.com/ by entering you service tag number and download OS Driver pack drivers.
You can update the OS driver pack thorugh iDRAC GUI or through Lifecycle controller GUI and once after updating OS driver pack. when you try to deploy OS through Lifecycle controller, you will be listed out with the supported operating system list and you can select the operating system which you want to install by mounting the selected Operating system image or DVD media connected to system.
Please let me know if you have any question.
Thanks, Neeraj

Jepoytengco,
From your description it sounds like you may have an S110 installed. Would you confirm that for me?
If that is the case then boot to the controller and recreate the Virtual Disks. Starting with the 2 drive raid 1. Once that is created then under "Change Controller Properties" on the Controller Mgmt page and set that array as bootable. Then go back and create the Raid 5. After that is created then boot the server to the OS media for the Raid 1 and install the OS. Once in the OS the Raid 5 should complete its initialization and will be visible after that.
Reason being that although a initialization is software-initiated at the S110's Configuration Utility, the S110 drivers must be loaded before the initialization runs.
Let me know if this answers your question or if the S110 controller is not installed.

Hi Chris,
I'm sorry I didn't quite get that, what do you mean by "S110" is this the version of the RAID config utility? because when I checked the "Device Info" it says for the RAID:
Integrated RAID Controller tDellPERC Configuration Utility
then below that are the 4x Integrated LAN adapters,
Thanks

Hi Chris, I was able to see the 2 virtual disknow but as soon as I continue to "deploy OS" it just gives me this error message:
Unable to retrieve the list of supported operating systems (SWC0015)
Recommended action: update the system with the latest Lifecycle Controller OS Driver Pack, obtain the OS Driver Pack from the service provider
Thanks
Jeff

Hi Neeraj,
Issue has been solved. What I did was install an OS manually with the help of RAID drivers so that I can detect the virtual disks. After the OS installation, I downloaded the updated LCC pack and install it inside the OS. After that LCC came back with the upgraded driver pack which includes Win2k12 R2
.
I got this info when I called Dell Server toll free tech support.
Thank you and have a great day ahead to all!
Jeff
