PowerEdge T620 Raid configuration
We just brought a Dell PowerEdge T620, and I’m new to the admin with very little knowledge of servers. I have following questions and hope this group can help.
The system came with one CPU with 8gb, PERC H710, 2x300gb 10K SAS, no OS.
1) I’d like to put 2 Kingston SSD 120GB SATA III as Raid 1 for OS
2) Then I’d add one more 300gb 10K SAS with the existing two drive for a Raid 5 for data.
My questions are:
Is the SSD in Raid 1 good for performance as it will be for OS primarily? Also The two Kingston SSD 120GB are consumer grate (around $100 each) not enterprise grate, are those reliable?
Before install the Windows Server 2012 Essential yet, do I need configure the Raid 1 first? If so, what’s the document or manual I should reference to?
In addition to these questions, if you have any advices for the first server admin, that will be highly appreciated.
Thanks for the help.

Those hard drives have not been validated on this machine and may or may not work with the H710. As for reliability it depends on the server load, the biggest difference between consumer grade and enterprise grade drives is the amount of writes it can handle before failure. SSDs are more than fast enough for the OS. You would be fine with regular hard drives for the OS in a RAID 1. As for the RAID configuration, ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_dell_adapters/poweredge-rc-h710_User%27s%20Guide_en-us.pdf
Page 41 shows how to create the RAID 1.
