Problem using iDRAC 7.20.10.05
Server Dell PowerEdge T360 with DELL PERC H755
iDRAC , BIOS and PERC latest versions
After updating iDRAC to the latest version available on the product page (Dell website) i.e. iDRAC 7.20.10.05 the rear fan (page 18, position 4 in poweredge-t360-technical-guide.pdf) periodically starts at maximum speed for a short period of time (up to a few minutes).
It is annoying and can be a cause for concern!
Rolling back to the previous version iDRAC 7.10.90.00, A00 (Maintenance -> System Update -> RollBack) seems to solve the problem.
Could it be a sensor set incorrectly in the new version that is causing the problem?

@jas17
Reset iDRAC
Reboot means Reset iDRAC according to the information in the link above?
I hope not Reset iDRAC to Default Settings!
So after rebooting iDRAC does the fan problem get resolved?
Didn't Dell know about this and if it did, wouldn't it have been OK to mention this with the release of the new version of iDRAC?

Wouldn't Reset iDRAC be easier to understand if it were called Reboot iDRAC?

@teoberi yes: reset (=restart/reboot) iDRAC, not reset iDRAC to defaults. So far the issue still didn't reappear.

OK, today after I update the BIOS (Dell Server PowerEdge R260/R360/T160/T360 BIOS Version 2.0.0) I will roll back to iDRAC version 7.20.10.05 and reboot to test the solution.
Normally a restart solves problems and maybe in the case of iDRAC this is the solution.

I did both updates and restarted iDRAC and so far it seems OK.

Yesterday, I updated the firmware on my Dell PowerEdge R760Rx server to version 7.20.10.05 via IDRC. After the update, I encountered an issue where the server's fan speed has increased significantly and is running at a much higher speed than usual. The fan noise is also noticeably louder, indicating a higher RPM.
Steps Taken:
Firmware updated from the previous version to 7.20.10.05.
After the update, I noticed that the fan speed increased.
The fans continue to run at a high speed even when the server is idle.
Potential Causes:
The firmware update could have modified the thermal management settings or fan profiles.
A bug in the firmware update may have caused the system to misinterpret thermal data, leading to high fan speed.
The system might be erroneously detecting higher temperatures or workload demands, triggering the fans to run faster.
Request for Assistance: I kindly request help in diagnosing and resolving this issue. Please guide me on how to:
Adjust or reset thermal and fan settings through the BIOS/IDRC interface.
Revert to previous firmware if necessary.
Check system temperature and other sensor readings to ensure they are normal.
System Information:
Server Model: Dell PowerEdge R760Rx
Firmware Version: 7.20.10.05
Issue: High fan speed post-firmware update

@zub2025
If you want to roll back:
iDRAC -> Maintenance -> System Update -> RollBack -> Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller -> check box active -> Install

Bad news, it seems the problem has returned!
This morning when I checked in the server room, the fan speed problems reappeared.
I rolled back to version 7.10.90.00 again!

@zub2025
Check system temperature and other sensor readings to ensure they are normal:
iDRAC -> System -> Overview -> Cooling

Hello, zub2025 new release will have a fix, for now we advise against using 7.20.10.5 if it is causing fan issues.
Respectfully,

@teoberi Problem reappeared on our concerned nodes (after looking a bit longer, all our R6615 and R7515 where concerned) after a reboot of the nodes.
So a reset of the iDRAC may fix the problem, but a later reboot of the host machine seems to bring it back.
@DELL-Young E could you clarify whether the idrac release 7.20.10.50 should contain a fix over 7.20.10.05? The release notes don't seem to mention it explicitly and the release date looks a bit young, but still ...
PS: not sure whether KB000297431 was already referenced in this thread

Hello,
It has been found that after upgrading the iDRAC firmware to 7.20.10.05 on PowerEdge servers 15G/16G, FAN noise situations may occur.
Please downgrade or roll back the iDRAC firmware to 7.10.90.00 to solve the FAN noise problem.
IPS is in progress investigating this issue to share new versions of firmware 7.20.30.x will be released later to optimize and solve the problem.
It will likely have other fixes or enhancements but there is not a release date yet or release notes to see the fixes.
I do not see that 7.20.10.50 had the fix.

We have a similar issue with our R750s. Upgraded IDRAC to 7.20.10.50, did a BIOS Update to 1.16.2 and Upgraded ESXi to 8.0.3. Since then the FANs run static at 70% PWM.
For me, downgrading iDRAC to 7.10.90.00 did not solve the issue.
Following the steps in KB000297431 did not solve it either (Workload Profile, System-Profile).
I am in exchange with DELL Support, but looks like we´ll have to wait for 7.20.30.x

I would verify that the downgrade took effect, and reboot.

Do we have any information when the patch 7.20.30.x will be released?
