R550 and HBA355i
Hello.
According to spec of R550 HBA355i controller is suitable for this server. But, according to hba spec it's a 2 different types of 355i: adapter and front. I need to replace onboard controller H755 front (because it hasn't drivers for OS Oracle Solaris with latest updates) to 355i at server R550. So, I have some questions:
1) Do they use the same chip and driver?
2) Can I use any of them or not?
3) What different between "adapter" and "front"?
4) Why there are 2 different types of this controller?
Thank you.

Attention: The HBA355i(nternal) is a dumb NON-RAID controller. We use it when dealing with SoftwareDefined Storage (VMware vSAN) or speaking of HBA355e(xternal) when using Tape and connecting a SAN.
Do you need a RAID like H755, H355 or NonRAID like HBA355?
About your question about adapter or front.... just guessing but maybe they mean PCIe Adapter variant which needed a free Slot and some kind of embedded and cabled to the systemboard. Did you take a look into the technical R550 book?

Thank you, Origin3k for reply.
I need a NonRAID HBA355. Yes, I have looked into tech R550 book, but haven't found such information. I have found only general view of such adapters (links in my first post)

I have ordered front HBA355i and it has successfully installed. All disks are visible for OS via controller.
