RAID controller or drives failure?
Hi experts,
I have an R730 server with H730 mini controller and two Sandisk 400GB SSD drives (RAID 1). A few days ago the system went down with these symptoms:
1. On reboot I see: "There are offline or missing virtual drives with preserved cache"
2. In H730 mini BIOS configuration utility the message is: "No configuration present!" Virtual disks are listed as 0, Physical disks: 2.
3. In H730 mini BIOS configuration utility under Physical Disk Management two disks are listed, state: Failed
4. In iDRAC log I see the following messages:
Thu Dec 10 2020 13:26:43 Fault detected on drive 1 in disk drive bay 1.
Wed Dec 09 2020 21:24:59 Fault detected on drive 0 in disk drive bay 1.
Wed Dec 09 2020 21:24:54 Drive 0 in disk drive bay 1 is operating normally.
Wed Dec 09 2020 21:24:44 Fault detected on drive 0 in disk drive bay 1.
Tue Jul 28 2020 17:04:45 The PERC1 battery is operating normally.
Tue Jul 28 2020 16:44:15 The PERC1 battery is low.
There are a lot of older messages about PERC battery being low and then operating normally.
My questions are:
1. Is the problem with H730 PERC? Does the battery need to be replaced or the whole PERC?
2. I think it's highly unlikely that two SSD drives failed at the same time. Is it safe to assume that the drives are fine?
3. If PERC needs to be replaced, is it possible to restore PERC configuration from cache? Do I need to do anything to preserve cached configuration for eventual reload?
I appreciate any advice you can provide to put me on the right path to recovery of this system.
Thank you, Alex.
