RAID SSD config recommendation

Hi all,

i'd like to upgrade my T620 server with 3 SSD drives. A PERC T710 storage controller is in use. Which RAID configuration is recommended for SSDs? RAID5? What about TRIM/garbage collection and all the other SSD features? Is the storage controller capable of the IOPS?

Thanks in advance!

RAID 5 will work well and you should have no other issues with this configuration. All the other features of should function as well.

Fastpath I/O is only supported on the H710P and H810, so no IOPS .

What is Fastpath I/O? What do you mean with "so no IOPS". Will i see any performance impact compared to native SSDs?

Fastpath I/O is a method of increasing Input/Output Operations per Second (IOPS) by using the 2nd core of the PERC (Gemini core) to directly execute I/O and completely bypass caching.  It does support IOPS,  but FastPath inceases the speed.  I apologize for the unintentional error.

Fastpath I/O is most beneficial for SSD disks.

Fastpath I/O is not available on H710 controller, only available on H710P and H810 controllers.

You will see performance gains over the SAS\SATA drives.

Great details, thanks for sharing! Do you have any performance numbers how much speed you get more if using the 710p?

That's a lot, i would say! Do you think it's better to not create a RAID over the SSDs?

Any guideline to my previous question? Thanks!

With the Perc controllers, you will have to setup a RAID array, as they do not support JBOD. The minimum you would set up would be RAID 0 on a single drive if you wanted to go that route.  Depending on what you are going to run, I would setup a RAID 1 for my OS, and a RAID 5 or higher for my data.
