RAID1 Not working
I have a Dell 1600SC and I am trying to configure RAID 1 using PERC/CERC configuration Utility.
I can create an array with 2 disks. And it also creates a logical drive, but when I try to initialize the logical drive it gives me an error and then the 2nd drive in the array shows degraded.
Then I have to restart the whole server to see the 2nd drive again. And then the same thing happens when I try to Initialize.
I am doing a fresh install, So no data is at risk. Any suggestion would be helpful.
Thanks

Well, It's one of our customer servers. It uses RedHat 3 and basically, it is used for a very old phone system. I know it's quite old but they are going to change it soon but till then they need that server.
I found 1 weird thing while troubleshooting. Always the drive in the 2nd Channel fails. If I swap the drives the drive in the 2nd channel fails. So I don't think it is the drives, because I got compatible ones recently.
I think it has something to do with the RAID controller itself. Honestly, I don't know much about RAID controllers, because I use software raid all the time.

Try other drives or start with 2 RAID0 and than do some stress tests to find the faulty one.
Question: What do you do with a 20Y old server?

If failure observed on specific channle/slot, can you try the drive on another free slot and see whether that fixes the issue?
