Reconditioning Controller Battery - Netware

I have received the message "Controller battery needs reconditioning.  Please run controller's management software"

We have a PowerEdge 2500 running Netware 6.   I believe the controller is an Adaptec PERC3/Di.

Currently, I have a DOS partition with no Dell software installed.

My questions are these:
Should I update the bios before I begin?
Do I need to use FAST (CLI)?
Do I need to update my adapter driver and firmware?

Should I install all of the software below in the order listed?

Driver: Adaptec PERC2, PERC2/Si, PERC3/Si, PERC3/Di, v.2.8.0.6075, A01
Firmware: Adaptec PERC3/Di, v.2.8.0.6089, A08
Application: Adaptec PERC2, PERC2/Si, PERC3/Si, PERC3/Di, v.2.8.0.5973, A14
Utility: Adaptec PERC2, PERC2/Si, PERC3/Si, PERC3/Di, v. 2.5.0.2985, A08

Are these the most current versions?

Finally, what would happen if I didn't perform the reconditioning?

Thanks

Hi,

The latest Perc Upgrades are always recommended.
Install in this order:
Driver: Adaptec PERC2, PERC2/Si, PERC3/Si, PERC3/Di, v.2.8.0.6075, A01
Firmware: Adaptec PERC3/Di, v.2.8.0.6089, A08
Application: Adaptec PERC2, PERC2/Si, PERC3/Si, PERC3/Di, v.2.8.0.5973, A14

The fourth file you listed does not apply.

This document explains the options for reconditioning process. The document only refers to the Perc 2, but that same advice applies to the Perc 3/di in the PowerEdge 2500.

The latest System BIOS and ESM Firmware is also recommended:
System BIOS
ESM Firmware

FYI, failure to recondition the controller battery will result in the cache ram being disabled which will degrade performance. Continued neglect can possibly result in complete controller failure.

Thanks for using the Dell Community Forums

After running ‘controller battery_recondition’ command in FASTCLI.NLM the FASTCLI Task Progress does not display anything. Is there a way to determine if the task completed successfully? I ran the process about 24 hours ago.  Thanks

Hi,

From the FastCLI prompt type:
open (controller name)
controller details

Dellâ„¢ Command Line Interface Reference Guide

Battery State Item details
