Replaced H730 mini with HBA330, cant install anything on any drive
Hello!
I recently swapped the H730 mini with a HBA330 mini an R730XD. Since the switch, I can't install any OS onto any drives. No matter the OS, I always get a similar error about it not being able to install a new partition on the drive.
I don't know if it's normal but on idrac, when I go into storage>controller, there's a lot of field where I see "information not available". When I clic on setup, I read the error RAC0743: Unable to perform storage configuration operations because no storage controllers are detected on the server. The drives are shown however and I can boot off a USB stick into a linux distro and wipe them. I also did a SMART self test from there that resulted no errors.
I was wondering if there's any troubleshooting I can do or if the HBA330 is indeed defective.
Thanks!

Lots of possibilities on this one. First, update the bios, idrac and the HBA330 fw to the latest.
Verify that the Integrated Raid controller is enabled in the bios, but it sounds like it is enabled (see first screenshot)
Then, if you dont care whats on the drives and dont mind formatting them, follow the steps shown below to format the drives using the HBA330.

Hi Rey, thank you so much for taking the time to help me.
I did run the Platform Specific live iso twice to make sure everything is up to date. I also formated the drives multiple times to no avail, but not with the menu of your screenshots. My R730XD boots in UEFI so I only see a graphical interface during the boot sequence with no option to Ctrl-C.
It is very strange as I can see every disk listed with their information. I also updated the HBA330 firmware with the platform specific package and I can see its information via idrac, including its SAS address. The only weird thing I see is that under storage>controller>setup and storage>controller>troubleshooting, the following warning shows up:
RAC0743: Unable to perform storage configuration operations because no storage controllers are detected on the server.
Is this normal for the HBA330 since it's a jbod card?
Thanks!

Hi, if I may, from what I see
https://dell.to/3coHnkM;
among these I don't know what you purchased but the warning message doesn't look abnormal particularly.
Also I don't think you need to necessarily get rid of the replaced H730 mini but just move the cable from the replaced H730 to HBA 330 but we could also wait to see what Rey thinks. Have a great one. ^^

Actually the HBA330 is a mini version so I had to pull out the H730 mini! I’ll try to read thru the link you sent me to find some clues, thank you!!

Can you try changing the boot mode to bios instead of UEFI to see if you are then allowed to Cntrl-C to access the HBA330 utility? Also, what OSs and versions have you tried to install? Could you also try using the F10 LifeCycle controller to install the OS?

Hello Suzuya,
The HBA330 is not a RAID controller. You would not be able to configure a RAID array in the HBA330 BIOS.
You can use OS Software RAID solutions if you want to use the HBA330.
