SAS 5/iR Controller

I've installed one of these adapters in to a Dell Power Edge 840 running SBS 2003.
Is it possible to boot straight off one of these adapters without going through the process of configuring RAID and re-installing the operating system?  I'm assuming all you have to do is change the boot order in the BIOS.

Cheers

Hi Bill,

Perhaps not so easy, there are a number of issues you'll need to address:

1). Driver, is the driver for the SAS 5/iR different from the driver for the previous controller, if so you'll need to replace the driver just before you move the drives over.

2). Boot.ini may need to be edited. When installing an additional controller into the system, the system BIOS may change the ordering of the controllers, and without even moving the drives over you get a boot failure when the controller 0 is no longer the same controller previously at controller 0. Which controller actually becomes controller 0 may depend on which slot you've installed the card in, and if you've turned off or are continuing to use the original controller.
