Server doesn't recognize the drives.

Hello.
I Just purchased a Dell PowerEdge T105
when configuring, I've also added SAS6iR (SATA/SAS Controller) to it.
I have also purchased 2 1TB Western Digital HD from Amazon. here is a link to the hard drives I got:
http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Cache-Green-WD10EADS/dp/B001IEZX3G/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1234655402&sr=8-1

I removed the 2 hard drives in the server with the new 1tb drives. my server did not came with OS pre-installed. so i though to replace the drives and go ahead with the OS installation. since I was getting no drives found error on boot up, I pressed F6 on windows 2003 installation and loaded the SAS6iR drivers through the floppy drive. I rebooted the server and pressed Ctrl+C to manage the Raid controller and I sucessfully configured a raid1 setup. i went on and installed the windows server just fine.

after the installation, I tried the dell dvd to load up all the drivers and application for running and managing the server and I get a error from the disk saying this is not a valid dell server. :emotion-12:

so I though maybe I should've ran the dell dvd first and then installed the windows, I rebooted the computer, boot up with system with the dell dvd and then following the installtion configuring windows and finaly placing windows cd into drive and completed the installation on more time. this time I logged in and played with the server a little bit and I shutted it down. in a couple of hours when I turned it back on I get the error "no OS found" basically server can't even locate the hard drives. I went on to give it another shot and I re-ran the windows installation disk to reload the raid drivers by pressing F6 and it loaded it just fine, but as soon as it goes to next page, windows informs me that it could not find any hard drives and press F3 to quit. basically even though I am loading the drives, server still can't communicate with teh raid controller. I also tried connecting a USB storege to the motherboard and when retrying installing windows, it finds the USB drive and gives me option to install the windows in it. really don't know what to do. any help is appreciate it. :emotion-9:

Have you tried with the original drives that Dell sold with the system to see if they are more reliable?

Also, for servers you don't want to use desktop drives. Look for (SATA) drives that are specifically designed for server use.

Seagate for instance has a desktop version of their Barracude drives and a server version of the Barracude drives. Using desktop drives in servers will impact long term reliability.

Hello There and thank you for your reply.

the drives I got are the highest rated drive on amazon.com. while you might be right about server specific drive, since I needed this for a short project, I'm not too worried about it. dell server itself comes with 1 year warranty while these drives come with 3 years warranty. in anycase, i get the same result with dell drivers. keep in mind dell drivers are the same Western Digital drives. could it be the raid controller or driver is defected?
