"Simple" Rack mount server

I need to stand up a new bare metal box for Ubuntu 16.04LTS using the ZFS file system.

One issue with ZFS is that it needs to talk to the raw disk drives directly. PERC controllers do not allow this even when  you expose each drive as a single drive.

I need to know if there is a new Dell rackmount server that has 4-6 plain old SATA ports without going through a PERC controller.

Yes, I could add a separate SATA controller but I'd rather use what Dell has.

Any suggestions?

If you want a Dell solution, most servers support the H330 HBA, which is a non-RAID SAS controller. Otherwise, most of the servers have an option for "embedded SATA" when configuring.

Single-disk RAID 0 only presents a 1-to-1 PD-to-VD setup, there is still an abstraction layer separating the bare hardware from the OS.
