Ilyasahsan,

Would you clarify the model server you are working with, as it will be platform specific? Also, the owners manuals will have cabling diagrams of supported configurations, would you let me know which one looks to be the way yours is cabled?

Let me know and we can go from there.

@DELL-Chris H its R750 and server is already delivered to End customer site. and all cabling and configuration they will do by them self. below some HL spec of the server.

  1. 2.5" Chassis with up to 24 SAS/SATA Drives including 8 Universal Slots (NVMe Direct), 2 CPU
  2. SAS/SATA/NVMe Capable Backplane
  3. Front PERC H755 Rear Load (for 2.5" x24 SAS/SATA chassis)

I believe H755 Adapter supported SAS/SATA and NVMe but above PERC H755 not. now customer can use the 4* 960GB Data Center NVMe Read Intensive. does he configure software for NVME ?

Hi,

Referring to the guide, page 5 and 11: https://dell.to/46ghzlz, the customer should change the settings in NVMe settings to RAID mode if they want to use the disk as RAID. And the NVMe drive should be managed by the PERC S150.

@DELL-Marco B Hi Marco, sorry for my type mistake.

Actually based on the  shared  links & steps we have applied NVMe Raid with S150 raid built but at the time of OS installation there is no RAID disk showed there are individual disks showing no RAID.

Attached are screenshots of the deployment please check and and support here.

Hello,

as per our technical support mail sent on the 13/09 the S150 won't be able to do the RAID configuration through VMware.

Also PERC H755 front won't be able to create RAID with NVMe.

I hope that this information can help you.

Thanks

Which version of Windows operative system are you installing?

You can first set NVMe mode in BIOS

Dell PowerEdge RAID Controller S150 User’s Guide | Dell US

And for windows installation, please can you list all the steps you are using to install?

Thanks

Hi,

The reason that during the installation of Windows as a VM resides in VMWare, the installation is not able to detect the RAID is because VMWare do not support PERC S150. https://dell.to/3rmt9ML

@DELL-Joey C Hi Joey, thank for the links. confusion is still there. my concern we have ordered the server with below spec

Chassis with up to 24x2.5" Drives

SAS/SATA/NVMe Capable Backplane
2.5" Chassis with up to 24 SAS/SATA Drives including 8 Universal Slots (NVMe Direct), 2 CPU

C7, Unconfigured RAID for HDDs or SSDs (Mixed Drive Types Allowed)
Front PERC H755 Rear Load (for 2.5" x24 SAS/SATA chassis)

Internal disks
6* 2.4TB 10K RPM SAS ISE 12Gbps 512e 2.5in Hot-plug Hard Drive
4* 960GB Data Center NVMe Read Intensive AG Drive U2 Gen4 with carrier

Now customer wants to configure two raid one for NVMe * 4 drive and one for SAS * 6 drive. what he need to do . is there any HW need to replace or what . Please support on this issue.

Hi,

Based on the service tag, there was a call made to the support and the support agent has informed that they will need to replace the controller card. As the OS, VMWare is unable to support PERC S150 to install Windows OS.

@DELL-Joey C Thank you for your feedback, but really it surprising us that we order the system with complete solution mean OS VMware vSphere 7 Enterprise Plus for 1 CPU, up to 32 cores, 1YR VMware 2. and there was no error/warning message while configuring the specs in OSC. Appreciated if you would guide that which card need to replace and how it will be processor. will this be as spare replacement  or new order.
