Timeout Failure during SCSI Inquiry Command - PE1500SC

I have a PE 1600SC (Tag # 3FHDV11) that all of a sudden will not shut down and will not respond to any commands.  It just sits at the logging at the logging off screen. I manually rebooted the machine and received it went through and found SCSI 0, 1 and 2 (my 3 hard drives) and then the error "Timeout Failure during SCSI Inquiry Command" displays.  It then starts "Rescanning for SCSI Devices" and just continues through this repeatedly.  It will then give me the option to Strike F1 to continue  - which just makes the system beep and Strike F2 to enter the BIOS.  Since my SCSI bp is on 6 I am assuming this is where it is hanging since it never gets this far.

I went in to the SCSI Select Utility and just accepted the default setting which was already selected and rebooted the machine and it scans through SCSI 0,1,2 and 6 and now boots up again.

Any ideas on what could be causing this.

Hi, i had the same problem with my PowerEdge 6300. It got stuck at the moment where AMI MegaRAID II was checking SCSI ID6 and then it displayed "time-out failure during scsi inquiry". When i tried to plug SCSI cable leading from backplane to onboard SCSI adapters the same problem.

while I have at my disposal several PE6300, i tried another model with a RAID pulled out from the malfunctioning first server. It turned out, that the problem is in the backplane (it has SCSI ID6). But where exactly in the backplane I have no idea. hope this helps you to figure out your problem. Paul
